The Sylhet Govt. Pilot High School is one of the oldest school and of Bangladesh as well as the Indian Subcontinent. The Governor General of India, Lord William Bentinck, tried to promote fluency in English then he establish in 1836 the Sylhet Government Pilot High School. In 1869 it was renamed Sylhet Government High School. It is also the first established high school of what is now Bangladesh.
