Police Staff College Bangladesh in Kafrul, Dhaka

Training is a key element to enhance the quality of any organization and its ability to respond to new development. It is important for the Police service because it operates in a constantly changing environment.
After independence, in order to provide comprehensive professional training including international policing for current and future leaders, the need for setting up a Police Staff College was keenly felt by the management and the government.
In the late eighties, the Police Commission (1977) recommended the establishment of a Staff College for high-level in-service professional training of senior police officers. After a decade, another Police Commission Report of 1988-89 impressed upon the idea and underscored the importance of a liberal education for senior Police officers. In pursuance of those reports, a formal proposal was sent to the government in 1994 and approval of the government came on 14 December 1998.
Police Staff College Bangladesh, the apex training institution for senior Police officers, emerged as a statutory organization in 2002 under the ‘Police Staff College Act 2002’. At present, a Rector of the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police heads the College. Two MDS (Addl. DIG) and four Directors equivalent to the rank of Superintendent of Police assist him. A Board of Governors headed by the Honourable Home Minister guides the College management.
The College has a vision for the future. It encourages visitors and guest speakers from diverse backgrounds. Civil servants, academics and professionals from various fields come often to share their thoughts, experiences, and ideas with the participants, which has made the institution a center of excellence that blends theory and practice.
The College attaches utmost importance to the quality of training. All the Courses are rich-textured, well-focused, and quality-assured. With modern training aids and appropriate training methodology, the College establishes a congenial learning environment for the participants.
Since its establishment on 30 November 2000, the College has imparted training to a good number of officers of different ranks (ASP to DIG). Police Staff College conducts core courses and specialized courses of different tenures.
Police Staff College Bangladesh is proudly conducting a number of courses in collaboration with foreign partners. Many international organizations like the US Department of Justice, Anti Terrorism Assistance Program of the US State Department, Australian Federal Police, NPIA & NTFIU of the United Kingdom, German Federal Police, the Police Reform Program of UNDP, UNFPA, ICRC, the Netherlands Embassy, and Danish Embassy have trained the participants in different need-based areas.
Police Staff College elevated its status from national to international by introducing the first SAARC course ‘Transnational Organized Crime’ in 2013. The managerial capability of the college attained the international standard through this course. Combating transnational crime, sharing knowledge & experiences, maximizing SAARC police cooperation, and exchanging the best practices of policing are considered the objectives of the course.
The College has a specialized functional library with a rich collection of books, journals, periodicals, and research reports for the benefit of participants, researchers, and directing staff of the College.
It is located in the capital city Dhaka at Mirpur-14 and stands on a total of 19.5 acres of land with an environment of green scenic beauty.
