Saint Nicholas High School in Kaliganj, Gazipur

Prior to the year 1910, on the basis of the backing of the Portuguese priests in Nagri and the Lower Primary School was started in the small donations of the Zilla Board. That is, the first and second class was enough. Then the teacher was Babu Anupup Chandra Roy. He passed the F.A. and English teachership.

Since there was no school within 10/15 miles except Kaliganj alone, since local church authorities consider the needs of the people of this region, they promoted it to the lower secondary English school on 1st September 1910.

There was no student in class 6 in 1911, 5 in the 5th class, 7 in the fourth grade, 13 in the 3rd class, and 6 in the second category = 31. In that year, 52 students were admitted in the first grade. Among them, there were 31 Christian students, Hindu students were 33 and Muslim students were 19. The then secretary of St.Nicholas Middle English School was the secretary of the committee, Rev. Father J. Jarqato (J, Jorqato). At that time, the departmental inspector Saheb remarked that Jarkoto was the soul and soul of the organization. As a result of his earnest efforts, the status of the education establishment was restored to the completion of a full-fledged high school. At that time the journey of the region was not good. During the rainy season there was no communication except boat. However, the school had a rugged building and there was a subdivision of the house.

In 1912, the student wage rate was 6th class 1 rupee, 5th class 14tha, 4th grade 12tha, 3th class 12th Anna, 2nd class 8tha, 1st grade 4tha. But the average annual monthly income was only 20 rupees; But the monthly expenditure was 80 taka The remaining money was carried out by the mission authorities. This is why the situation in the area is full of misery. In the year 1917, there were 61 students in the 1st grade, out of which 1 were free and the remaining 60 were half free. The departmental inspector Abdul Gani commented that due to lack of education, there is less presence in the school and the inability to pay the wages. The school has become almost a charity institution. He also said that "If the local people are unfavorable to pay anything for their sons education, I believe it is almost useless to give any English education to all."

Although only 1 in 1919, there were only 3 students in the 6th grade, but the Mission authorities gave Rev. to the opportunity of higher education for a small number of students. Father B. D'Cunha upgraded to a full-fledged high school on January 2, 1920, and appointed Babu Dhirendra Nath De Ba as Head Teacher. Then a boarding committee was formed to increase the number of students of the school and to the government recognized and guided rules. In it Reva: Father B D De Kunha (Vicker / Administrator, Portuguese Mission) was elected president. In 1921, the school received official recognition. Then the school's class would sit on the winter day from 11.00 to 3.00 and on the hot day 6.00-10.30.

In 1923, the students of St. Nicholas High School first participated in the Matriculation Examination. The center of the examination was named Narayanganj. Of the 13 examinations, four were passed in the first division and 6 were in second division. In 1924, 16 people examined. Among them, 7 passed by first division and 6 passed by the second division. From the beginning, the emphasis is on talking about the English education of the school and the entire English in English. Until the country's department, the Portuguese Mission Authority has been trying hard to improve the quality of education in the schools by bringing the best teachers of different parts of the country by advertising in the newspaper "Daily Ananda Bazar, Hindustan Standerd" for recruitment of teachers in their schools. They left their genuine love crop at St. Nicholas High School.

As a result of this, nowadays, more than a hundred students of the year are passing out of credit and going out for higher education. As of the past days, education, culture, sports, debate, scouting and various education programs are being started. Now we should take advantage of these opportunities to brighten our future.
