National Defence College in Pallabi, Dhaka

National Defence College (NDC), Bangladesh was established following the decision of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on 07 December 1996. The Honourable Prime Minister of the then government laid the foundation stone for the campus of NDC in Mirpur Cantonment on 10 January 1998. The 1st National Defence Course commenced on 10 January 1999 in the premises of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. The new building of NDC was inaugurated on 22 November 2000 and the College was shifted to its present campus. A three-member British Defence Advisory Team assisted in structuring the 1st National Defence Course. The Course was designed to make the senior military and civil services officers aware of National Security from a broader perspective, the opportunities and threats of Geo-politics, and the related strategic imperatives. The 1st Armed Forces War Course commenced on 10 January 2001. The course was designed to train selected officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces to undertake higher command and staff responsibilities. This course focuses on capacity building to face the challenges of the future war environment. As the 3rd course at NDC, Capstone Course commenced on 17 January 2010. This course was designed for seeking advanced knowledge, skills, and networks related to multilateral security cooperation in Bangladesh among senior law/policymakers, security- practitioners, judges, executives, civil society representatives, and other distinguished personalities of the society. National Defence College, Bangladesh is regarded as a premier national institute of excellence in security and development studies at the strategic level.
