Kabi Nazrul Institute in Dhanmondi, Dhaka

Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is an unforgettable epoch-maker of Bengali literature. He has left an incomparable contribution not only in poetry but also in music with the magic touch of his wonderful talent. He is also the greatest name for our courage, beauty, and artistic arrogance. This great poet, the main embodiment of literature, music, and culture of Bangladesh, is also a symbol of our human consciousness. That is why he is our national poet. In accordance with the Nazrul Institute Ordinance 1984 issued by the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh in February 1985 to preserve his immortal memory, conduct research, collect, preserve, publish, and disseminate his life, literature, music, and overall contribution and to highlight his image at home and abroad. The Nazrul Institute was established at 330-B House, Road No. 28, Dhanmondi. Later, the Kabi Nazrul Institute was established under the Kabi Nazrul Institute Act 2018. 

Functions:

1. To encourage the poet to practice all his creations including literature and music;

2. To collect, compile and preserve all the works of the poet including literature and music from home and abroad and to publish and propagate them in an unadulterated modern manner;

3. To take necessary steps for research, publication, preservation, and dissemination of all works of the poet, including literature and music;

4. Organizing conferences, lectures, debates, and seminars on the contribution of poets in music, literature, and other fields;

5. Establish libraries and archives for the preservation of books, records, tapes, and other collections related to Nazrul music and literature;

6. Nazrul Sangeet is composed in unadulterated words and tunes to propagate the music in the right spirit, style, and manner.

7. Arrange for proper training in Nazrul music, Nazrul music-based dance, Nazrul poetry choreography, and Nazrul poetry recitation;

8. To arrange for the conferment of higher degrees in Nazrul Sangeet Shastra;

9. In recognition of Nazrul's significant contributions to music, literature, and other fields, each year, with the recommendation of the relevant selection committee and the approval of the Board, the individual or organization is awarded the 'Nazrul Award individually or collectively;

10. The Institute's information website is readily available and regularly updated;

11. Inclusion of all literary works, notation, and unaltered lyrics and tunes in the website for the promotion and dissemination of Nazrul's works;

12. Arranging for the publication and translation of the poet's literary works in different languages ​​of the world; And

13. To perform such other functions and matters as may be necessary for the purpose of this Act.
