Jahanara Israil School & College in Barishal Sadar, Barisal

Jahanara Israil School of College Row, Barisal is being built with many goals in mind: the first and foremost being to bring new hope for students to get a modern education. As you know, most of the private schools are located in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. We wanted to bring something more to the rural area.

We have all noticed for many years that Barisal and the surrounding areas are in need of an affordable, high-quality school. Hence, a modern school will prevent our children from leaving for the capital city. Moreover, this will attract new jobs to this area which will be a big plus for this great city.

My siblings (Saleh M. Solaiman, Saleh M. Hossain, Saleh A.F. Rahman and Sultana J. Bhuyan) and I have come to make this dream a reality. This school is a living memory of our parents. The property is donated by SM Solaiman, SAF Rahman, Sultana J. Bhuyan, and myself; also a land value monetary donation by SM Hossain. The late SM Hassan’s portion of the land was purchased from his heir apparent for the school.

Now, to build a modern school with solid, western curriculum in this part of Bangladesh is not going to be easy. Much work is needed to be done and a lot of help is required from the local people and the government. We want to create a wonderful educational establishment, which will give Barisal city students an upper hand in Mathematics, Science, and English. It is time to step out of the past and break through with a clear and modern version of education, which is very important in the present world today. This brand new, modern school will be a great match for the educational system recently adopted by the Bangladesh Government.

My vision is to build Jahanara Israil School into one of the top rated schools in the country. Also, we are striving to make the school a safe and secure environment for the students. This will nourish the high quality education they will be receiving. More importantly, parents must know that they do not have to worry whilst their children are at school.

JIS is aimed at being the dream school for students and teachers, as well as the parents. Let us build this great school brick by brick, for our children which will continue generation after generation, for you and me. Whether you are a Barisalian or not, whether you are a Bangladeshi or not, with your support, we can touch these school children and enable them to flourish their ideas and turn themselves into better citizens of the world. Grow with us and be a part of history-making, like so many other great Barisalians.
