Barisal Government Technical School and College, situated in the heart of Barisal city, offers a serene and natural learning environment. Established in 1901, it stands as the district's sole government technical education institute, encompassing 10 acres of land. The institution began as the "Vocational Training Institute (VTI)" with just 40 students. In 1986, it evolved to enhance national skills development. By 1995, the institute expanded its focus to integrate general and technical education, aiming to equip the population with essential skills to meet global challenges.

In 1995, the school introduced a two-year SSC (Vocational) program, followed by the HSC (Vocational) program in 1997. These additions marked a significant step in providing comprehensive technical education to the youth of the region. Over the years, the institute has grown and adapted to changing educational needs, consistently producing skilled and knowledgeable graduates.
