Govt. Barisal College is one of the most renowned colleges in the division of Barisal. It is a college of glory and tradition as it was established at the residence of Mahatma Ashwani Kumar Datta. It bears the testimony of the glorious Tamal Tree and demonstration of the golden touch of Ashwani Kumar. Regarding its significance and heritage it was nationalised in 1986. Prior to that it had an excellent academic reputation. It continued its earlier reputation by keeping academic convention. At present Govt. Barisal College is the pride of the division for its having a glorious result in the H.S.C, BA (Pass) B.B.S, and BA (Hons) examinations. Barisal College team has clinched the championship of the national level Clearman Confidence cup Inter College Tournament 2010 organized by Uniliver Bangladesh Ltd.
