Global University Bangladesh in Barishal Sadar, Barisal

Global University Bangladesh (GUB), a private university in Barisal, was approved by the University Grants Commission in 2013 and established in 2015 under the Private University Act 2010. It holds the distinction of being the first private university in the Barisal Division. Initially, three board members, including the chair, were relatives of ruling party MP Jahangir Kabir Nanak. By late 2016, the top three administrative positions were still vacant. In May 2019, Professor Anisuzzaman was appointed vice-chancellor, and enrollment reached approximately 1,300 students. Although land for a permanent campus had been purchased, the university continued operating from a rented six-story building. As of February 2021, GUB had no permanent professors. The university is accredited by the University Grants Commission and approved by the Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh.
